Understanding Dizziness

Dizziness can originate from several systems including the inner ear (vestibular system), the neck, vision, or the brain. Vestibular physiotherapy helps assess these systems and identify the cause of symptoms.

Vertigo

A spinning or rotational sensation often caused by inner ear disorders such as BPPV.

Balance Problems

Feeling unsteady while standing or walking due to vestibular, neurological or sensory causes.

Persistent Dizziness

Ongoing dizziness that may follow vestibular illness, concussion or migraine.

Conditions Treated

BPPV

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo causes brief spinning sensations triggered by head movement. Treatment often involves repositioning manoeuvres.

Vestibular Disorders

Conditions affecting the inner ear balance system including vestibular neuritis and vestibular hypofunction.

Concussion Dizziness

Vestibular symptoms are common after concussion and can be treated with targeted rehabilitation.

Vestibular Migraine

Dizziness or vertigo associated with migraine conditions. Vestibular rehabilitation can help reduce symptoms and improve tolerance to motion.

Cervicogenic Dizziness

Dizziness related to dysfunction of the cervical spine. Physiotherapy can address neck mobility and sensorimotor control.

Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness

Long‑lasting dizziness and motion sensitivity that may follow an initial vestibular event.

How Vestibular Physiotherapy Helps

Vestibular physiotherapy focuses on assessing and rehabilitating the systems that control balance, spatial awareness and eye movement.

Assessment

A detailed assessment of dizziness symptoms, eye movements, balance and positional testing helps identify the cause of vertigo or dizziness.

Diagnosis Guidance

Many dizziness conditions such as BPPV, vestibular migraine and vestibular hypofunction can be identified through clinical examination and appropriate testing.

Targeted Treatment

Treatment may include repositioning manoeuvres for BPPV, gaze stabilisation exercises, balance training and graded exposure to motion.

Return To Normal Activities

The goal of vestibular rehabilitation is to restore confidence with movement, reduce dizziness and help you safely return to normal daily activities.
