My Story
A few years ago, I sustained a significant concussion playing football. It ended up having a much bigger impact on my life than I ever expected. I was unable to exercise for around three months, my work was significantly affected, and I missed an entire season of football.
My recovery was more prolonged as I didn’t initially receive the targeted rehabilitation/education I needed. This delayed my recovery and my return to work, exercise and sport.
My concussion symptoms eventually settled, but my experience with dizziness didn’t end there. I began experiencing cervicogenic headaches and vestibular migraines every couple of weeks, which continued to disrupt my work, exercise and everyday life.
This experience became a major reason for my interest in concussion and vestibular rehabilitation. I wanted to better understand why symptoms can persist after concussion, how the vestibular system contributes to dizziness, balance and visual symptoms, and how appropriate assessment and rehabilitation can help people return to the things that are important to them.
Since then, I have undertaken further study and training in vestibular physiotherapy and developed a particular interest in the assessment and management of concussion, dizziness, vertigo and balance disorders.
Today, I’m back playing football, exercising normally and no longer experiencing ongoing concussion symptoms.
